Peter Pan and Great Value Peanut Butter Recall Due to Salmonella

We know that almost all dogs love peanut butter, and many people put peanut butter in Kongs and other dog toys to keep their dogs busy. PLEASE read the following information and pass it on to all dog owners!

If you have any jars of Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter, check to see if the product code on the lid of the jar begins with the numbers 2111. If consumers have any of this Peter Pan or Great Value brand peanut butter in their home that has been purchased since May 2006, they should discard it.

Dogs and cats can get salmonella and display symptoms of fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain. Dogs and cats typically will just carry the salmonella in their system and can pass it on to humans in their fecal matter and saliva.

If you used the recalled peanut butter and have concerns, contact your vet to let them know and ask if there are any precautions or tests necessary to give you peace of mind.

For more information on the recall, go to: http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2007/NEW01563.html
